Honored: Warly Remegio
Vice president for nursing professional development and practice excellence named to first-ever Modern Healthcare ‘40 Under 40’ list
Since joining Hartford HealthCare in December 2021, Warly Remegio has made it his mission to reduce turnover among new nurses and leaders through stronger orientation and more professional development.
“I’m a big proponent of a healthy work environment,” he said. “I want to make sure that for every colleague there’s an opportunity for them to grow in their own specialty or in nursing
leadership.”
To support nurses transitioning into leadership roles, Remegio spearheaded creation of a curriculum to teach responsibilities, such as quality, safety and fiscal stewardship.
By giving nurse leaders the tools to succeed early, the hope is they feel more prepared and are less likely to leave, he said.
Other partnerships include work with Vizient to launch a nurse residency program and with international nursing schools to develop workforce pipelines. He also implemented an online student placement platform and maximized the availability of preceptors in every patient care unit, allowing the system to mentor up to 6,000 student nurses, a 600% expansion.
A core focus for Remegio is giving back to the community, and he serves as vice president of the Philippine Nurses Association of America and co-chairs its Anti-Racism in Nursing Taskforce.
